There weren’t butterflies in my stomach. There were Goddamn dinosaurs stampeding back and forth. I kept taking in deep breaths; inhale through my nose, exhale through my mouth. That didn’t calm me down. Nothing could calm me down. Today was the big day, and honestly, what bride wouldn’t be nervous? I was getting married today; to the guy I’ve loved since high school. It was finally happening.
I was wearing nothing but a tank top and sweat pants as I sat in the chair, staring at my reflection at the mirror across from me. Suddenly, the door opened and through the mirror I saw Lou walk in with a smile. “Hey there, love,” she smiles, closing the door behind her.
Turning to look at her, I smile. “Hi,” I reply nervously.
Lou looks at my expression and laughs. “Don’t be so nervous, El,” she says. “I’m just here to do your hair and makeup.”
I let out a sigh as I sit properly in my chair and Lou pulls out a makeup kit. She starts almost immediately, telling me to just close my eyes and relax in my chair as she works her magic. And I do just that. I couldn’t have asked for anyone other than Lou to do my hair and makeup for today.
As I sit back, I feel the brushes across my eyelids and a pencil for what most likely was the eyeliner. Another brush danced across my cheeks and I felt what was lipstick on my lips. About ten minutes later, Lou said, “Open your eyes; I need to do your mascara.”
I do as she says, and look up as Lou applies some black mascara on my eyelashes. When Lou was finished, she told me to look in the mirror and my eyes widened. She had applied silver and black shimmering eye shadow, black eyeliner, and mascara making my eyelashes look extra long. I had on red lipstick and she had added a glossy look to it. I grinned at the sight, and thanked Lou.
“Don’t thank me yet,” she laughed. “I still have to do your hair.”
As she began on that, the door opened and in walked Melody, Becca, and Eleanor. They were already dressed and ready to go. The bridesmaid dresses were a baby pink color that ended above their knees and was strapless. It had beads covering the breast part of the dress, and a pale pink ribbon covering the waist. “Aw, El, you already look beautiful,” Melody grins as she walks up to me.
I smile as Lou starts to curl my hair and she asks Eleanor, “Where’s Lux?”
“Louis took her to the rest of the guys,” Eleanor chuckles. “He wouldn’t stop bothering me until I handed her over.”
Lou rolls her eyes, smiling as she lets a wand of my hair go from the curling iron. “The guests are arriving at the church,” Becca informs me. “Harry’s family is already there.”
I let out a breath and slightly nodded, not wanting Lou to accidently burn me. About fifteen minutes later, Lou was done with my hair and my eyes widened. My hair was curled and it fell over my right shoulder tied in beautiful knots. “This is amazing,” I say. “Thank you so much, Lou.”
Lou smiles as she hugs me back. “You’re so very welcome,” she replies. “Now go on, get in your dress.”
I bite my lip and nod, walking over to where my dress hung. Taking it off the rack, I walked behind the wardrobe shades. Carefully, I took the dress out of the plastic cover it was in and released a deep breath. Stripping out of my clothes, I put on the dress, careful not to ruin my hair. I stood for a couple of minutes, looking down at myself.
“Come on, Elena,” Eleanor’s voice sounded. “Let us see you!”
Sucking in a breath, I walked in front of the girls, and gasps escaped each of their lips. “Oh my God,” Melody says, covering her mouth with her hands. “You look beautiful!”

“Beyond gorgeous,” Becca chimes in.
“Stunning,” Eleanor adds with a grin.
“Really?” I ask, biting my bottom lip.
Lou nods. “Absolutely,” she grins. “Now, girls, we need to get going. Elena, your parents will be here shortly, okay? Just sit tight.”
I nod as the girls quickly give me a hug, before scurrying out the door and leaving me by myself. I put on my silver heels, playing with my French manicured nails as I look at myself in the mirror. As I saw myself in the mirror in my white dress and hair curled and makeup done, it still didn’t feel real. I wondered if Harry was feeling just as nervous as I was. Or maybe I was just overreacting? Ugh, I didn’t know.
The door opened and in walked my lovely brother. He looked very handsome in his black tux and tie. His hair was spiked up and he looked pretty good. “Ah, there she is,” Tyler grinned as he closed the door behind him. “Oh, God, my little sister looks gorgeous.”
I smile as Tyler stands in front of me, putting his hands on my bare shoulders. “Thanks,” I say.
“Who would’ve thunk my little sister was getting married before me?” he smirks and I roll my eyes.
I laugh. “It’s crazy,” I hum. “But I’m so nervous.”
“Don’t be,” Tyler smiles down at me. “Today’s your day, alright? It’s going to go great.”
‘Here Comes The Bride’ started playing and my stomach was doing somersaults. I drew in a breath as my arm wrapped around my dad’s. “You ready, sweetheart?” he asks me.
“It’s now or never,” I reply with a smile.
The big church doors opened and it revealed everyone standing and looking in our direction. My eyes immediately locked with Harry from across the room as he stood with his hand tied behind his back, grinning from ear to ear as Louis stood next to him. The girls were already up at the altar, smiling as all eyes were on me. Swallowing the lump in my throat, Dad and I started walking down the aisle, and I saw several familiar faces.
All of the boys’ families, Lou, Tom, Baby Lux, Ed Sheeran, Grimmy, my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, Mum, Tyler, everyone. We even invited Tanya, Harry fake ex-girlfriend who I had become good friends with and she was here with her boyfriend. All eyes were on Dad and I as we walked down the aisle, and I felt so nervous. But my eyes were glued to Harry’s green ones, as I watched him bite his bottom lip, and I smiled.
When we got to the front, Dad handed me off to Harry, and I couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face. I handed my pink roses to Melody as I turned to face Harry as he grinned down at me. As everyone settled down, the priest began to speak.
“Dear friends and family, we are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the union of Elena Marie Carter and Harry Edward Styles in marriage. In the years they have been together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured, and now they have decided to live their lives together as husband and wife,” he spoke.
He looked up from his book as he spoke to Harry and I. “Harry and Elena, remember to treat yourselves and each other with respect, and remind yourselves often of what brought you together. Take responsibility for making the other feel safe, and give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves. And, if each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marketed by abundance and delight.”
The priest paused for a moment and then said, “Harry, would you like to begin your vows?”
Harry nods as he looks down at me. “Elena,” he begins. “I still remember the day we met. Who would’ve thought that we’d meet in detention?” he smirks and I chuckle as the boys smirk as well, remembering the day. “I was a handful back then and I’m probably still a handful now. But you’ve been with me throughout it all and I love you for that. You’re gorgeous, intelligent, and the sweetest person I’ve ever met. You know me better than I know myself, and I love you so much. And really, this is the best day of my life. Better than Madison Square Garden, even,” he adds with a wink as everyone in the room laughs and I chuckle.
“Elena,” the priest turns to face me, telling me it’s my turn.
I chuckle as I heave a breath. “I really don’t know where to start,” I bite my lip. “When we met, I honestly thought you had a huge ego. But over the few weeks where I got to know you, my opinion on you changed. I saw how caring you were when it came to your family and friends. I had been dealing with some problems and you were there to help me through them. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to spend the rest of my life with, and I love you – And dear God I just realized how cheesy that sounded,” I finished with a laugh and once again, everyone laughed.
“Now, Harry, repeat after me,” the priest says. “I, Harry Edward Styles, take you, Elena Marie Carter.”
“I, Harry Edward Styles, take you, Elena Marie Carter,” Harry repeated in his deep voice.
“To be my wife.”
“To be my wife.”
“To have and to hold from this day forward.”
“To have and to hold from this day forward,” his eyes bored into mine.
“For better or for worse.”
“For better or for worse,” the smile kept growing on his face.
“For richer, for poorer.”
“For richer, for poorer.”
“In sickness and in health, to love and to cherish,” the priest smiled.
“In sickness and in health, to love and to cherish,” Harry repeated as I bit my bottom lip.
“From this day forward until death do us part.”
“From this day forward until death do us part.”
“Elena, repeat after me,” the priest said and I pursed my lips as I smiled up at him.
I repeated everything the priest said, and I grinned as I spoke the final words, “From this day forward until death do us part.”
From over Harry’s shoulders I see Louis grinning widely and I look back at Harry, whose dimples were in clear view. “The rings, please?” the priest asks.
Melody gives me the silver ring as Louis gives it to Harry and we turn back to each other. I put my left hand out as Harry takes the ring and slides it on my finger whilst saying, “I give you this ring, as I give to you all that I am, and accept from you, all that you are.”
I grin as I do the same, echoing him, “I give you this ring, as I give to you all that I am, and accept from you, all that you are.”
As we pull our hands away, the priest says, “And now the power vested in me, I hereby pronounce you husband and wife. Harry, you may now kiss your bride.”
Harry wasted no time in leaning down and pressing his lips on mine, and I drowned out the voices of everyone cheering as I kissed him back immediately as our lips moved in sync. When we pulled away, Harry grinned as the priest said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Styles!”
The wedding reception is going amazing. It was at a huge and beautiful garden, a tent over it as tables were set up around, a dance floor in the middle, and a stage up in the front. I had changed out of my wedding dress and wore an elegant white strapless dress that ended above my knees and was pretty much made of silk.
I was being pulled around by everyone and anyone, and I didn’t mind because I was so damn happy today. “Congratulations, Elena!” I turned and saw Tanya grinning, her arm hooked around a guy’s.
“Thanks, Tanya,” I grinned. “Is this your boyfriend?”
She nods and smiles. “This is Jack.”
“Nice to meet you,” Jack smiles. “And congratulations.”
“Thank you,” I say. “And thanks for coming too.”
I then grabbed myself a glass of Champaign because I had gotten a bit thirsty, and my face was hurting from smiling so much. As I sipped it, I felt arms around me and I turned to see it was Harry.
“Hi there,” he grins down at me.
I grin up at him. “Hey,” I smile.
“Gimme some of that,” he smirks, taking my glass as he takes a sip of my drink.
I roll my eyes. “Sure, take it,” I reply.
Harry and I then sit down at our table, and I watch as Louis walks up on the stage. “Can I have everyone’s attention?” Louis spoke into the microphone as everyone quieted down. “I’d just like to say a few words to the lovely bride and groom.”
“Oh dear,” Harry whispers and I nudge him, smiling.
“Haz,” Louis begins, “you’re my best friend – there’s no doubt about that. We have been brothers since high school and will be brothers till the end. When I saw you and Elena first meet, I knew that this whole thing would go somewhere. And look at where we are now – at your wedding! Let me tell you, mate, we didn’t expect you to be the first one to settle down.” This causes us all to laugh. “But we’re all so happy for you, and wish you both happiness till the end.”
I smile as Harry grins widely at him and stands up, walking over and giving Louis a tight hug as the rest of the lads join in and everyone claps. As they settle down, Melody goes on stage and she grins.
“Elena, you’re my sister, honestly,” she smiles at me. “You have always been there for me and I’ll always be there for you. I’ve seen you at your highs and your lows, and you’ve always managed to pull through. You’re such a strong person, and I love you so, so much.” Her eyes then go over to Harry, and she smirks. “You better take good care of her, mister,” she says. “Or else you’re gonna have to go through me.”
I laughed as Harry put his hands up in a surrender mode, and Melody walked off the stage. I got up and hugged her tightly, whispering, “Thank you.”
She pulls away, grinning widely. “Congrats, babe.”
The whole evening was amazing. We danced, we drank, we ate, and we talked. Everyone was having a good time and I talked to my family and Harry’s family. Anne literally made me call her ‘Mum’, and she grinned in approval when I finally did. I was having the time of my life, dancing and laughing.
As I sat down for a few minutes to catch my breath, Harry sat next to me and I smiled at him. “You having fun?” he asks with a smile.
“You have no idea,” I reply with a chuckle.
Harry fully grins as he takes my hands in his, pulling me into him. “I love you.”
A blush crept on my cheeks as I returned his smile, leaning in. “I love you too,” I say before pressing my lips to his.
It was honestly unbelievable how far we’ve come. Through my father trying to keep us apart, to his own father trying to sneak his way back into Harry’s life, and then Harry becoming this big musical sensation. We somehow always found a way back to each other, and in my opinion, that’s what matters most. Harry and I never gave up on each other, and even if we tried to we couldn’t be able to possibly do that. The love we have for each other is overwhelming even for me, and I can’t believe how lucky I am.
I thought Harry would have just been a high school boyfriend that I’d have – someone I used to know in my past. But he turned out to be something so much more than that. He became the guy that I found myself way too attached to for my own good. He became the guy I used to think about day in and day out. And every day, it feels like I’m falling in love with him all over again – and I honestly don’t give a shit on how cheesy that sounds.
Because I know, that the guy I belong with, is my husband.
