Chapter 23

Elena’s POV:

A tidal wave of emotions hit me the minute I saw my dad. Confusion, sadness, frustration, all in one hit. What was he even doing here? Why was he here? My jaw clenched tightly as Melody shifted her weight from one foot to another uncomfortably, obviously feeling awkward in the middle of this unwanted family reunion.

“Why the hell are you here?” I ask harshly, not trying to hide the fact that I’m not pleased to see him.

Dad’s jaw clenched, but his nostrils flared as he tried to keep himself calm. “I came to visit you.”

I glare. “Why? I have no intentions of seeing you, or talking to you.”

Mum just sits there, biting her bottom lip as she looks down at her lap, Dad looking directly at me. “You’re my daughter, Elena. I still lo –”

“Don’t give me that bullshit!” I almost scream, taking a step back. “You sent me off – away from you and dropping me off at Mum’s. You tore me away from my home, my friends, and my boyfriend! You honestly think I’m going to forgive you for that?”

“It was for your own good,” he replied.

“Bullshit,” I scoff, crossing my arms over my chest. “You’re so damn lucky that Harry and I are back together, or else I would have totally blowed up on you.”

Dad’s eyebrows scrunch together. “You’re back together? How is that even possible?”

I roll my eyes. “When you’re in a famous boy band, you need to come to Los Angeles at one point or another. We met up and evidently got back together – no thanks to you.”

“So he went from being some teenage dirtbag to a popstar?” Dad raises an eyebrow. “That just seems unreal.”

“Don’t call him a teenage dirtbag,” I say. I shake my head, a chuckle of disbelief escaping my lips. “You have no right to come down here and visit us. As far as I’m concerned, you’re not a part of our family. You sent me off, you divorced Mum. She is so much better off without you, and I’m so happy here. So if I were you, I’d get back up and go back to England.”

And with that, I stormed up to my room.

Harry’s POV:

“So how was the flight?” I speak into my phone as I rest it in between my right cheek and shoulder, typing away on my laptop.

“Good,” Elena sighed from the other side of the phone.

            I chuckle lightly. “Tired?”

            “No, just angry,” she replies.

            I frown. “Why?”

Elena stays quiet for a moment, before she starts speaking. “When I came back to the house.... Mum and Melody weren’t alone.” She pauses for a moment. “D-Dad was there?”

“What?!” I exclaim loudly, now holding my phone in my hand as I frown at the floor. “What in the world is he doing there?”

Once again, she sighed from her end of the phone. “He claimed to be visiting me and Mum. I call it complete bullshit. He could honestly care less about us and he knows it.” At the end, her voice broke and wavered, as if she was about to cry.

I plopped myself down on the edge of my bed, my jaw clenching. The fact that I was on the other side of the world and Elena had to deal with her father by herself killed me. I wanted to be there with her, so she didn’t have to do this alone. This sucked.

“Hey, don’t worry about me,” Elena’s soft voice spoke, and I let out a sigh. “I’ll be fine.”

“This is your dad we’re talking about, Elena,” I remind her. “The guy who sent you to Los Angeles because you were dating me.”

“He can’t do anything about that now, can he?” she asks. “My dad has no control over my life, whatsoever. I’m free to do whatever the hell I want and date whoever I want. He has no say in that.”

“But –” I tried to argue, but Elena cut me off.

“Butts are for sitting,” she replied, causing me to chuckle lightly. “Trust me, I’m gonna be fine. Don’t worry about it.”

I let out a sigh, running a hand through my hair. “Alright, fine. If you say so.”

Elena chuckles. “Good,” she says. “Now, I have to go. Melody and I are escaping the house so we don’t have to deal with my dad. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Alright,” I sigh. “I love you, El.”

I could tell by her voice that she was smiling. “I love you too, Haz,” she says. “Bye,” she adds before hanging up.

Another sigh escapes my lips as I put down the phone next to me on the bed. I kept thinking about Elena having to face her father. The man that never understood his own daughter. The man that didn’t let her daughter go after what she wanted. The man that kept Elena and I apart. I just dealt with Management and their bullshit, I am not going to let her dad do the same thing. Again. Elena and I are back together and no one’s going to break that.
