Chapter 52 - Birthday Surprises

Kelsey’s POV:

A knock sounded on my door. “Is the birthday girl up?” Anne’s voice asked from the other side of the door.

I chuckle as the door opened, sitting up as it revealed Anne holding a cup of steaming coffee. “The birthday girl never slept,” I tell her as she walked inside. “The little ones were kicking like crazy.”

Anne chuckles softly as she hands me the mug and I thank her. She sits on the edge of my bed, “What are your plans for today? You’re twenty years old.”

I chuckle, sipping my coffee. “Nothing, really,” I shrug indifferently. “I don’t really celebrate my birthdays that much.”

“Nonsense!”Anne exclaims, slapping my leg lightly. “You’re definitely celebrating your birthday, especially since this is your first year of not being a teen anymore.”

I let out a groan before sipping my coffee once more. “Don’t remind me,” I chuckle, “I liked being a teenager.”

“Don’t we all,” Anne hums, smiling before standing up. “Come on, up and at ‘em. Gemma and I have breakfast prepared.”

I chuckle as I got up from bed as well. “Alright, I’m coming,” I say.

As Anne leaves my room, I put the cup of coffee down and go into the bathroom. As I do, I take a minute to look at myself in the mirror; my blond hair was a mess and my stomach was bigger and rounder. By now, none of my old clothes fit me anymore and I needed to shop for some more maternity wear. I hadn’t realized how big I would be getting until now, and I was only bound to grow more. I was about twenty and a half weeks long, and my next ultra sound was coming up soon.

After washing my face, I tied my messy bed hair in a messed up bun and walked out of the bedroom, only in my pajama pants and one of Harry’s old T-shirts that somehow miraculously still fits me. With the half-empty cup of coffee in my hand, I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen where Gemma and Anne sat.

There were omelets and toast set out on the table, making my stomach churn in hunger. Sitting down next to Gemma, I inhale the delicious scent of the food and sigh. “All of this looks so good,” I tell them. “There might not be left for any of you,” I add with a chuckle.

Gemma laughs. “It doesn’t matter,” she says. “It’s your birthday. Eat up!”

I chuckle as the three of us start eating, and I immediately start devouring the tasty cheese omelet. Once we were finished eating, I went up stairs to brush my teeth, not wanting to have egg breath and then walked back down stairs. Just as I did, the door bell rang.

“I’ll get it,” I called as I made my way towards the door.

Opening the door, my eyes widen as I see Harry standing in the doorway. He had a smile on his face, the one I had missed so much that made his dimples appear, and his brown duffel bag over his shoulder.

“Harry!” I exclaim, a laugh escaping my lips as I hugged him tightly.

I felt his arms wrap around my body, his face nuzzling in the crook of my neck as I took in his musky, woodsy scent. My hands found their way into his hair as I ran them through his hair, before we pull away.

Harry grinned down at me. “Happy birthday, love,” he says, his hands around my body.

I couldn’t help but smile before pulling him in for a kiss. “I can’t believe you’re here,” I grin as we pull away.

Harry chuckles, walking forward and putting an arm around my shoulders as we walked inside the house. “Surprise,” he murmured in my ear before kissing my temple.

Anne and Gemma soon came into view and grinned widely when they saw Harry. “Glad you made it, love,” Anne smiles as she hugs her son.

“Yeah, I thought you weren’t coming until later,” Gemma added.

I raised my eyebrows, “wait, you two knew he was coming?” I ask.

The two of them chuckle as Harry gives me a sheepish, innocent grin. “Of course we knew,” Anne says, “it was a surprise for you, not us.”

I chuckle and suddenly feel a kick in my stomach. My eyes widen and I grin, before taking Harry’s right hand and placing it on my big belly. “What are you –” Harry frowned in confusion, but cut he himself off when another kick came.

Anne and Gemma smiled, knowing exactly what was happening as I studied Harry’s face. His pink lips parted slightly as his green eyes went wide, feeling another kick under the palm of his hand on my belly. I couldn’t help but smile at his shocked expression, biting down on my lower lip as a grin broke out on my face.

“That’s – That’s amazing,” Harry finally choked out, his eyes meeting mine as he slowly removed his hand from my stomach. “Does it hurt?”

I shrug as I smile. “Not that much,” I tell him. “At first it did, but now I’m used to them.”

Harry smiles cutely where his dimples dented his soft cheeks. “That’s good,” he says.

“Alright!” Gemma suddenly claps her hands, bringing all eyes on her. “Mum and I are going to be gone for the day, so the two of you can do your birthday celebrations and whatnot. We’ll come back in time for the dinner.”

“Birthday celebrations?” I repeat, frowning in confusion as I look at the two women and then at Harry. “What does that mean?”

“It means,” Harry says, wrapping both arms around me sideways and pulling me in, “that the two of us are going to hang out for the entire day. So I guess you’re stuck with me.”

Anne chuckles, “I don’t think she minds.” I blushed. “Come now, Gem, let’s go.”

As the two of them left, I turned to Harry. “Are you hungry? I could fix you up something.”

Harry gave me a look that said ‘are you out of your mind?’ “It’s your birthday, Kelsey,” he says pointedly, “I’m not going to have you make something for me.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Are you hungry or not?”

“Not,” he replies before pressing a quick kiss to my lips. “Come on, love, we’re doing anything you want today. Anything, you name it.”

“Aren’t you tired, though?” I ask. “I mean, you just came back from halfway across the world and I’d be tired if I were you.”

Harry groaned dramatically as he leaned his forehead against mine, his green eyes meeting my blue ones. “Stop fretting and listen,” he says causing me to sigh. “We’re going to watch movies,” he says as he kissed me. “We’re going to eat a lot of junk food.” Another kiss, causing me to smile. “We’re gonna cuddle a lot.” A laugh escaped me. “And then we’re going to dinner with Mum and Gem and will get fat on fancy food and birthday cake.”

I smiled as I kissed him once more. “Sounds perfect to me.”

Seven movies, three bags of Lays, two 2 liter bottles of Sprite, and a lot of other junk foods later, Harry and I were still on the couch, buried underneath a big blanket. His legs were tangled with mine as I felt him twirling a lock of my hair in his finger, and I could feel his stares at the side of my face.

“Are you going to watch the movie or what?” I ask, trying to refrain myself from smiling.

“How can I possibly watch the movie when you’re right next to me?” Harry murmured, pressing his nose against my cheek as I let out a laugh.

I look at him, raising an eyebrow. “Are you high or something?” I ask, smiling as he let out a chuckle.

“No,” he replies as he shuts off the TV after stopping the movie. “Come on, it’s almost time for our dinner; we need to get ready.”

I sigh as he got up, and held my arms out for him. Harry chuckled as he took my hands in his before gently pulling me off the couch. The two of us went up our bedroom and started getting ready for whatever birthday dinner Harry had secretly planned.

Harry changed into his black skinny jeans – the ones without the rips, thank goodness – a white T-shirt with a black neckline along with a navy blue blazer on top of it. When he finished getting ready, he saw me still in my old clothes and frowned.

“Why aren’t you getting ready?” he questioned.

“I don’t know what to wear,” I chuckle sheepishly, “I don’t think I have any clothes that fit me.”

Harry frowned for a minute, before his expression changed. As if he just realized something. “Oh, crap!” he says, slapping his forehead before hurrying over to his duffel bag. I watched in confusion as he dug through the bag. He then pulled something out and handed it to me, and that only made me frown deeper.

It was some sort of clothing, wrapped in white tissue gift paper with tiny black hearts on it. “Your first birthday present,” he smiles as I take it from his hands.

I look at him before taking the wrapping paper off and unfolding the cloth. I grinned widely when I saw what it was. A beautiful dress, royal blue and was sleeveless, reaching down to my knees. “It’s a maternity dress,” Harry tells me, “it’s perfect for you to wear tonight.”

“Thank you,” I smile, kissing him softly, “I love it.”

Harry smiled back, proud of himself, “no problem; now come on, get dressed.”

I did as told, going into the bathroom and freshening up before pulling off my clothes and putting on the dress. As I got ready, Harry told me that Anne and Gemma had just arrived and were now getting ready. Once I finished dressing, I quickly did my makeup and brushed my wavy hair.

Once all of us were finished getting ready, we left the house and got into Harry’s Range Rover as he drove us to wherever was taking us for the dinner. The car ride was short, and we soon stopped in front of some restaurant I wasn’t familiar with.

Getting out of the car, Harry gave the car keys to the valet and we walked inside. Harry walked to the host, who told us to follow him to the back of the restaurant. But when the host opened the door to what seemed like the back room of the restaurant, I gasped in surprise when, well, I was surprised.

          “Happy birthday, Kelsey!”

To my uttermost pleasant surprise, all of the guys – Niall, Liam, Louis and Zayn – Eleanor, Danielle and Perrie were all there. They all stood in the room, grinning widely and dressed up as they started cheering and clapping. I couldn’t help but laugh, seeing all of their faces as Harry’s arm draped around my shoulders.

          “Happy birthday, love.”
